Newport Youth,
Fatally Injured
A Newport youth, Frank Bishop,
20, was instantly killed about 6:30
PM Friday, December 1 on State
road 11, a mile north of Boswell,
Indiana, when he was struck by an
auto driven by Amos Richardson of
Sheldon.
Bishop was accompanied by Dale
Ried, also of Newport, and the two
boys were hitch-hiking home from
Chicago. They were walking south and
it was raining. The Sheldon car pass-
ing a northbound auto and did not
see the boys, but stopped when they
felt the impact against the car. Bishop
was thrown against the fence about
20 feet away. Reid was unhurt.
In the auto with Richardson were
Walter Berry, George Hathaway and
Charles Markley. They were enroute
to the Ambia-Boswell basketball game
at Boswell where Markley was to re-
feree. Bishop received a broken neck,
crushed ribs, broken leg and arm and
a crushed skull. All were exonerated
who were involved in the tragedy from
blame during the inquest.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Bishop,
Frank was born near Newport and had
lived in that community all his life.
His parents now live on state road 63
between Montezuma and Newport.
Surviving are the parents and two
brothers, Max of Danville and Jack
at home.
Funeral services were held at 1:30
P.M. Sunday at Memorial Chapel, the
Rev. E. T. Miles officiating. Burial
was made in Oakland cemetery with
O. L. Brown and Son Undertakers in
charge.
