According to the 1850 Federal Census he was the son of George (a harness maker) and Sophronia Ash and the family was living in Newburyport. He appears to be their second born.

A sister Hannah (who is buried to the right of George) and a sister Susan (born 1844) are also listed in the census.

The 1880 Federal Census finds George and his wife Clara living at 16 Appleton St in Boston Mass and no children are listed. In the 1910 Federal Census, about 25 years after his wife's death, George is a lodger at 43 Concord Square in Boston Mass (home of Otto Geber) and is working as an instructor.

I assume he died in Boston and was brought back home for internment in the family plot.
