Son of Harvey Zimmerman & Louise Wright Swords; husband of Damie Chandler Swords.

His obituary stated he was a retired farmer and a member of the Methodist church. He was the last member of his immediate family (no predeceased siblings in this obit).

Survived by his wife; three sons, Earl Swords of Norris, Clyde Swords of Pickens, and Ernest Swords of Liberty; three daughters, Mrs. Claude (Etta) Medlin and Mrs. Jule (Retta) Merck, both of Norris, and Mrs. T.T. (Nettie) Smith of Gaffney; 25 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services: Wednesday, April 27, 1970 Golden Creek Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. A.C. Harrison and Rev. Warren Harbin.

Burial: Gantt Memorial Park

Pallbearers: all were his grandsons, Grady Merck, Edward Merck, Roy Medlin, Robert Chappell, Alton Swords, and Wayne Swords.

Honorary escort: the Men’s Bible Class of Golden Creek Baptist Church, also E.W. Gilstrap, Wade Bryson, Raymond Howe, Edward Howe, Dr. P.E. Swords, A.F. Bolding, T.M. Garrett, W.B.
