Admiral United States Navy. An 1866 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, he served with the Asiatic Fleet 1868-1870. During the Spanish-American War he commanded the U.S.S. "Niagra." Promoted to rear-admiral February 8, 1907, he retired May 15, 1908.
