Mrs. Martie R. Jones
Mrs. Martie Royster Jones, 55, of 3519 Guess Rd., widow of Andrew Jackson Jones and operator of Jones Nursery, died at Watts Hospital, Friday at 2:05 a.m. She had been in declining health for the four months and seriously ill for the last ten days.
Born and reared in Halifax County, Va., daughter of Mary Connally Royster and the late George Howard Royster, she was educated in the Halifax County school. She has been a resident of Durham 35 years and for the past 21 years has owned and operated the Jones Nursery. She was a member of the Guess Road Baptist Church.
Her husband, Andrew Jackson Jones, died in 1968. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Carl Summers of Greenville, S.C., Miss Andra LaFaye Jones of Durham, a step-daughter Mrs. Sam Taylor; two sons Tyren Berry Jones of Durham and George Edward Jones of Elon College and a step-son Andrew G. Jones stationed in Vietnam; her mother, Mrs. Mary C. Royster of Virginia, two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Mitchell of Maryland, and Mrs. Dave Neal of Durham; three brothers, Victor Royster and Earl Royster of Silver Springs and Oldham Royster of Durham; three grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.
Funral services will be held at Clements Funeral Chapel, Sunday at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Ernest Holt, pastor of Guess Road Baptist Chruch, and the Rev. Preminto Chisenhall eill conduct the service.
Pallbearers will be, Clifford H. Roystyer, Donald W. Royster, Thurlow Smith, Percy Ray, Linwood Gates and Tom Laws
