James "Raymond" Smith, age 85, formerly of 19 S. Washington, Fort Scott, died Wednesday, January 12, at the Medicalodge of Fort Scott. He was born December 28, 1914, in Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of Willis Marion and Cora Evelyn Burkhart Smith. He married Lena Hixon on May 2, 1945, in Fort Scott. Raymond retired in 1978 from Key Work Clothes where he worked as a driver, and also in the warehouse. He became a member of the United Brethren Church at an early age.
Survivors include his wife, Lena, also of the Medicalodge; one brother, Dale Smith of Topeka, Kansas; and a brother-in-law Jack Hixon, Fort Scott. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Lloyd Smith.
