John H. Engelking, 69, resident of Waterloo for 33 years, died at 10:30 a.m. today at his home, 623 Iowa street, after a brief illness of pneumonia, following three years of ill health from heart disease.
He was born Nov. 16, 1858, in Cook county, Illinois. In his younger years he was a buttermaker at Crane Creek, Ia. After removing to Waterloo he was engaged as traveling salesman for butter and egg produce houses until compelled to retire three years ago when he was stricken by heart disease.
On March 29, 1880, Mr. Engelking married Miss Celia Dierck, at Kluger, Ia. Surviving are the widow and seven children, as follows: Mrs. O. F. Klug, Cedar Rapids, IA.; Mrs. Henry Pieper, Des Moines, IA.; A.F. Engelking, Minneapolis, Minn.; Walter Engelking, Indianapolis, Ind.; Mrs. Walter Meyer, Mrs. Henry Bernett, and Mrs. George Hertlein, all of Waterloo; also two brothers, two sisters, and 12 grandchildren.
