Kenny Lake resident Earl A. Hastings Jr. died Dec. 22, 1997, at Watson Lake, Yukon Territory. A funeral was held Dec. 30 at Kenny Lake Community Chapel, Mile 9, Edgerton Highway.
Mr. Hastings was born May 24, 1937, in Philadelphia and spent his early years in Georgetown, Del. He began homesteading in Alaska in 1960 and completed his requirements by 1970. He resumed his residency in Kenny Lake in 1990 after retiring from the Air Force and operating a mobile home court and other rental properties in Sutherlin, Ore., for 20 years. Mr. Hastings enjoyed working with his hands and helping others. His other interests were Civil War history, photography, traveling and working with young people at Kenny Lake Chapel. He also was a 50-year member of Midland Grange of Georgetown. One of the highlights of his life was attending the Standing in the Gap Promise Keepers Rally in Washington, D.C., in November.
Mr. Hastings is survived by two sons, Mark Hastings of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Michael Hastings of Sparks, Nev.; mother, Alma Hastings of Georgetown; two sisters, Betty Hastings of Newark, Del., and Beverly Hastings of Alexandria, Va.; one brother, Richard Hastings of Jackson, Mo.; four grandchildren, Kathleen, Jordan, Kimberly and Constance Hastings; and many other relatives and friends. Memorials may be sent to the Kenny Lake Community Chapel Building Fund, Mile 9, Edgerton Highway, Kenny Lake 99573.
