SFC (U.S. Army Retired) Sanford Keith Costner, age 72, of Ariton, died Thursday morning, August 11, 2011, in Noland Hospital of Dothan.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Monday, August 15, 2011, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Harry Circle officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery with Full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M.
Mr. Costner was born June 4, 1939 in Gaston County, North Carolina to the late Earl Judson Costner and Martha Rachael Warlick Costner. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. He retired following over twenty years of service. Following his retirement from the Army, Mr. Costner worked in maintenance with Civil Service at Fort Rucker for twenty years and retired. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris June Lyman Costner; and his son, Jeffery Scott Costner, Sister Catherine Costner Laughridge
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Jud Spivey of Milledgeville, Georgia;
two sons and one daughter-in-law, Douglas K. Costner of Scottsville, Virginia, Darryl Wayne and Diane Costner of Advance, North Carolina;
two sister and and one brother-in-law, Eleanor Costner Hall Nancy and Mike Huffstetler of North Carolina;
two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Earl Judson Jr. and Sue Costner of North Carolina, David and and Janice Costner of Pennsylvania;
seven grandchildren, Cody Keith Costner, Phillip Michael Costner, Nicole Marie Costner, Stacy Marieann Costner, Gwendolyn Beth Costner, Victoria Danielle Spivey, and Wyatt Scott Spivey.
one great grandchild, Caden Joseph Aaron.
