Burton E. Carruthers, 86, of Kankakee, formerly of Ladd, died at 8 a.m. Aug. 12, 2011, in St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hurst Funeral Home, Ladd, with the Rev. Ronald Margherio, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be at Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley, with full military services by Ladd American Legion.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the time of services.
Mr. Carruthers was born March 10, 1925, in Ladd to Robert and Martha (Meyer) Carruthers. He married Florence Rooney on March 10, 1955.
Mr. Carruthers served with the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was stationed in the South Pacific.
He worked at Ladd Rubber Plant and later at Caterpillar in Aurora, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Ladd American Legion and had pitched for the Ladd Merchant Baseball Team.
Mr. Carruthers is survived by one son, Dan (Heather) Carruthers of Cincinnati, Ohio, three daughters, Donna (Steve) Worth of St. Anne, Sharon and Barb of O'Fallon; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on July 1,2007; one son, David Carruthers; and three brothers.
