Mrs. Rose Sexton Dies, Rites Will Be Saturday at Waseca
Mrs. Rose J. Sexton, Waseca, died of complications of advanced age at St. Mary's hospital, Rochester, Tuesday, June 11, after a months illness.
The wake will be held at her home at 911 3rd St. S. W., Waseca Thursday and Friday evenings and until the time of the funeral at 9 a.m. Saturday morning in Sacred Heart church. Services will be conducted by Monsignor John C. McShane.
Pallbearers will be five grandsons, Richard, Jerome, John and Joseph Sexton of Waseca, Lt. Eugene Sexton of Arlington, VA., and a nephew Raymond Devine of St. Paul. Burial will be in St. Ann's cemetery, Janesville.
The former Rose J. Devine was born June 21, 1882 in the old family home at the head of Reeds Lake, Iosco Township. Her parents, John and Rose Morgan Devine, were pioneer residents of the township. She attended the country and public schools and the teacher's training school.
The deceased was a pioneer school teacher in Waseca County, teaching in various districts in the community and as supply teacher at the Sacred Heart School. She taught until the time of her marriage to John J. Sexton June 21, 1905 in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Janesville.
Mrs. Sexton was active in community affairs and engaged in extension and 4-H work while living wither husband on a farm north of Waseca. Her husband passed away in April 1955. A son James Fabian also preceded her in death.
Leon J. B. Sexton, Waseca, is the only surviving child. Surviving grandchildren other than those listed above are Catherine, Marion and Shelia Sexton, all of Waseca. Surviving brothers and sisters are Miss Mary Devine, Waseca; Mrs. J. J. Elsen, Big Lake; T. F. Devine, Elysian; John J. Devine, Minneapolis. There are numerous nieces and nephews.
