The Reverend Waymon Preston Claiborne went to be with His Lord on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, while resting at his home in Pierce's Chapel.


Reverend Claiborne was born to Preston Eastland Henderson Claiborne and Minnie Alene Sanford on December 19, 1948 in Jacksonville, Texas. He married Dianna Lavon Daniel on March 1, 1969, and had two sons, Preston Eugene and James Marshal.


A 1967 graduate of Maydelle High School and a 1987 graduate of Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Reverend Claiborne received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Pastoral Ministry and then took his first Pastorate at First Assembly of God in Cayuga, Texas. His ministry included First Assembly of God in Milford, Texas, and Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Palestine, Texas. He has been the Pastor of Pierce's Chapel Assembly of God Church since January, 2001.


Music was a major portion of Waymon's life. He learned to play guitar from his aunt, Pearl Tillman and cousin, Rayburn Tillman at a very young age. He in turn taught many others at Joy Parish Music in Waxahachie and also in the various churches he pastored. He established a recording studio in his church to record local talent and also capture the history of his community. His unique voice and Godly spirit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by his congregation, family and many friends.


Reverend Claiborne was Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of the Almond Tree Community Resource and Training Center in Jacksonville, and was trained in Disaster Relief with the American Red Cross. He was an active member of the Tyler Farmer's Market and Founder of Farm Fresh Produce, Inc. in Jacksonville, Texas.
