Harry J. Gowen, age 71, passed away quietly
in his home after a short illness.
He came to Boston about 1885 where he soon became associated with T. D. Whitney in his linen store. Upon Whitney's death, Harry was made director of the store, which position he held until 1924.
Since 1924 he had been engaged in interior decorating work at Braintree.
He moved to South Weymouth in 1934 where he continued in business until forced by ill health to retire.
During the last five years he was troubled with recurrent heart attacks and by business reverses which worried him greatly. Nevertheless, his kindly disposition won him hosts of friends in Braintree and all over the South Shore.
He was a member of the Rotarians; the Men's Club of the All Souls Church; the Braintree Chamber of Commerce; and, a director of the Braintree National Bank.
