Edwin was the son of Edwin Milton Andreae, Sr. and Bertha Leona Fine.
Both of Edwin's parents were born in Missouri and married around 1897. By 1899, they lived in Point Precinct, Calhoun County, Illinois where Edwin's father was a farmer.
Edwin, Jr. was born in late 1903 or very early 1904 and died in infancy. He was survived by his mother and father; 1 older sister, Florence Andreae; and 1 older brother, Wilford Andreae.
The family moved to Camp Branch, Warren County, Missouri after Edwin, Jr.'s death. They then moved to Randolph County, Missouri.
Edwin's mother, Bertha, died in 1917 of chronic endocarditis at the age of 44. His father, Edwin, Sr., worked as a carpenter for the railroad. He died of congestive heart failure in 1956.
