Willie was the son of Henry S. Brown and Alice Belle Pierce or Prince. Willie and Sarah had four children: Orville Clayton, Glen Royal, Elbert and Maxine.

His WWI draft registration is signed Willie Wade Brown, confirms his birthdate and place of birth as Bolivar, Missouri, that he is a self-employed farmer, resident of Quinter, Kansas, and has a brother and sister under age 12 who depend on him for support. His obituary states that he has three living siblings: Len, Lilly and Lee. The only census family in Missouri with that set of siblings is that of Henry S. and Alice B. Brown, both of Missouri. In census data with his parents, he is listed as "Winnie" which must have been a nickname.
