Joyce was the daughter of William Victor Honner Wilson and Ella Peacock. She was born in their home in Sebewa Township. She was one of seven children, five of which lived to adulthood. The other four were Rose Eileen Wilson Ainsworth, Keith Victor, Royal Arthur and Carol Elizabeth Wilson Cassel.
