Hubert Carpenter Fruit Farmer Dies

Hubert J. Carpenter, 82, Freetown, died at 10:20 p.m. Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wilbert Ashcraft, Seymour R1. In failing health since June, Mr. Carpenter had been seriously ill for the past six weeks.

A native of Bucyrus, OH, Mr. Carpenter was born 6 December 1875. He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Freetown.

A fruit grower, Mr. Carpenter had his own truck fruit farm for many years after moving to Jackson County in 1911.

In February 1906, he married the former Dora Elsie Morrow in Bucyrus, OH. The widow survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Yuvonne Acton, Freetown; Mrs. Edith Meyer, Seymour and Mrs. Hazel Ashcraft; two sons, Lee Carpenter, Elizabethtown R 1 and Gene Carpenter, Columus R 3; 17 grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Goldy Hughes, Bucyrus, OH. An infant child preceded Mr. Carpenter in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. from Freetown Evangelical United Brethren Church with the Rev. Earl Carmichael, pastor officiating. Burial in the Reddington Cemetery.

Friends may call anytime after 12 noon Wednesday at the Carpenter home in Freetown.
