B. Sheldon Sprague age 90 of Truro, MA and Basking Ridge, NJ died Wedmesday July 20, 2011 at his home in Truro. Born in New London, CT on August 3, 1920. he was the beloved husband of Ruth Louise (Kaplan) Sprague to whom he was married for 67 years. He had lived for many years in Berkley Heights, NJ until recently moving to Basking Ridge. Shel Sprague was a scientist by training. He received his Bachelors degree from Swarthmore College, his Masters from Brooklyn Polytechnic, and an Honorary Doctorate from Lowell Technological Institute. For nearly 40 years, he was employed by Celanese Corporation, where he headed the company's research facility for part of his tenure. At Celanese, he developed, among other things, fibers for personal and industrial use. After the original Apollo spacecraft tragically burned on the launchpad, Shel and Celanese developed fire-resistant fibers for future manned space flights. In addition to his wife, he is survived his son C. Christopher Sprague of Summit, NJ, his daughter Susan Sprague of Austin, TX and his grandson Christopher Sprague of Summit, NJ.
