Anthony was the son of Giovanni (John) and Carmelina (D'Anna) Sberna. He was their third child. He grew up in Bellevue, a small midwestern town in northern Ohio. In 1949 he married Bertha Warrer, and the couple had two children, a boy and girl. In the fall of 1975 he had a heart seizure, and died suddenly at the young age of 48.
