Marina's father George Simpson died September 7, 1885, at the age of 67. Per his wishes, he was buried on the butte where he had hidden from the Indians more than a decade before. The butte then became known as Simpson's Rest and a favorite overlook for local residents. A sign that reads "Trinidad" lights up on the hill every night.
