On Feb. 24, 1947 Klondike Kutey took off on a classified mission from Elmendorf Air Force Base and was never heard from again. When it became clear that something had gone wrong an emergency alert was issued. All available military aircraft in Alaska joined in the search. The poor visibility and bad weather that contributed to the Klondike Kutey’s disappearance hindered search and rescue operations. The wreckage of the Klondike Kutey has never been found.
