Stanley J. Dec March 16, 1925-Aug. 12, 2011

Stanley J. Dec, 86 years, of Temperance, Mich. and formerly of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully Fri., Aug.12, 2011, surrounded by his loving family, in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

He was born March 16, 1925 to Frank and Mary (Kwietniewski) Dec in Toledo (Kuschwantz), Ohio. On June 29, 1946, he married Rita Swiergosz, and they celebrated 51 years together before she preceded him in death.

Stanley was a veteran of World War II, where he proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy Seabee.

He worked for New York Central and Conrail Railroads for 33 years.

After retirement, Stanley enjoyed volunteering his time coaching CYO softball and football, helping the Boy Scouts and helping out at the VA Hospital in Toledo.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion Post #18, St. Anthony Holy Name Society, and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Knights of Columbus #8902.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, John and Alexander and sister, Edwina.

Stanley is survived by his children, James (Cherie) Dec of Temperance, Yvonne (Frank) Michalkiewicz of Toledo, Juanita (Bobbie) Nelson of Prague, Okla.; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and two special goddaughters, Joan Katzka and Connie Hennigan.

He will be missed and loved for his strong devotion to his family and friends.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 18, 2011 in the Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, Mich., where the Rosary will be prayed by the K of C #8902 at 7 p.m. and a Scripture service will be at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Fri., Aug. 19, 2011, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Temperance, where he will lie in state in the narthex after 10 a.m. The celebrant will be the Pastor, Fr. Stephen Rooney. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo.

Those wishing an expression of sympathy in Stanley's name are asked to consider the Holy Cross Children Services in courtesy of the Knights of Columbus.

The family would also like to extend a special thanks to everyone for their prayers.
