John was born in Albuquerque on March 27, 1915, to John A. Adams and Helen Belle Shields.
John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lucille and three children, Tom Adams and his wife, Pat of Missoula, Montana, John A. Adams III of Albany, Georgia and devoted daughter, Lucille Adams Dillon, and John Dillon of Taos, NM. John is survived by two brothers, Paul Adams of Jemez Springs and Fred Adams of Albuquerque. Additional survivors include two grandchildren, Chris Adams and his wife, Korina and Kathy Adams, their mother, Frocene and three great-grandchildren, Sloane, Mackenzie and Debra Schock and son.
John spent his career as a civil engineer with 39 years of United States Forest Service. John was a lifetime conservationist. John was a lifetime member of the Jemez Community Presbyterian Church, Jemez Springs, NM, which was founded by his grandfather, Rev. John M. Shields.
John was an American Society of Civil Engineers, awarded Fellow and Lifetime Member of Elks Lodge #461. John also served in the Army Corps of Engineers and the Army Reserves.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Jemez Springs, NM on Saturday, September 1, 2001 at 2:00 p.m.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Presbyterian Church in Jemez Springs.
