Bruce W. Brooks, 80, of Canyon died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Canyon First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. David Morgan, pastor, the Rev. Billy D. Nickell, pastor of Amarillo's First Family Church, and the Rev. Tom Shepherd, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors.

Bruce W. Brooks was born March 19, 1931, in Haskell County to Curtis and Ella Mae Carnley Brooks. He married Julia Mae James in Amarillo on Aug. 20, 1948. He owned and operated Brooks Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning in Dumas, before moving his business to Ulysses, Kan.

In 1979, the family moved to Canyon, and he later purchased ACME Plumbing in Amarillo, retiring in 1996. He donated many hours of labor in construction of churches and church camps through the years. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing and loved spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and papaw. He was a member of the Canyon First Assembly of God Church.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Hospice Care of the Southwest for their loving care.

He was preceded in death by a son, Calvin Brooks, in 1994; a brother; and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Julia Brooks; three sons, Anthony Brooks and wife Shari, Keith Brooks and Roland Brooks and wife Caroline; a daughter, Dena Reed; two brothers, Ray Brooks and Glenn Brooks; two sisters, Rosalee Fagan and Peggy Brooks; 10 grandchildren, Bryan and Jason Brooks, Wes Reed and Charlie Green, Benji, Cody, Kasey and Savannah Brooks and Chase and Bailey Brooks; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brooks Chapel.

The family suggests memorials be to Canyon First Assembly of God Church, P.O. Box 332, Canyon, TX 79015; or Hospice Care of the Southwest, 1301 S. Coulter St., Suite 404, Amarillo, TX 79106.
