Survived by - (Edited for privacy) three children and their families, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, four loving sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Hawkins was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught the four and five year old Sunday School class for more than 20 years. She loved her church dearly and her friends who worshiped with them. She was a staff writer for The Cleburne County Times from 1967 until her retirement in 1981. One long-time Heberite noted that her writing in the newspaper was so eloquent that you could call Lyla on the phone and simply say a bunch of us got together, ate something and had some old raggedy dried up flower on the table, and Lyla would invent an enviable full-scale social event.
She took much pride in her membership and past presidency of Business & Professional Women's Club of Heber Springs and being an active Red Cross volunteer. She was also a member of the Town and Country Extension Homemakers Club where she enjoyed learning crafts and ways to improve in all levels of living with many of her friends. She was an attentive and loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and confidant. Lyla enjoyed collecting dolls & crocheting. She accumulated unique pitchers from all over the world and raised beautiful Sheltie pups. Lyla and Ralph can also be remembered riding in the Trail Festival parade in their green 1949 Desota.
The family would like to express their appreciation and admiration to the staff at Southridge Village nursing facility for their generous spirit, caring service, and compassionate care of Mrs. Hawkins during her stay.
