*Civil War veteran.
14th Michigan infantry, Co. D; enlisted 9 Aug 1862, age 28, from Delta MI. Discharged 12 Jun 1865.
The Fourteenth joined General Sherman's army at Dallas, Ga. the 4th of June, 1864 where it took an active part in the Atlanta Campaign, being engaged with the Southern forces at Kenesaw Mountain, the Chattahoochie River, then the Seige of Atlanta. After the fall of Atlanta the Fourteenth was with Sherman's March to the Sea, reaching Savannah, Ga., on the 16th of November.

Thursday Evening, August 13, 1914. Isaac Sheets Dies at Shiloh, Mich.

Isaac Sheets, who until a few years ago, lived in the vicinity of the Rich farm, in Danby, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jud Waldron, at Shiloh, Wednesday. Funeral services were held at the U.B.church in Portland Friday afternoon, the pastor and singers coming from Shiloh. Burial was in the Portland cemetery.
Mr. Sheets was a veteran of the civil war, having served for three years. He was born in Salem, O., July 22, 1834, but came to Lansing when he was 15. His first wife was Matilda Dayton. After her death he married Catherine E. Thuma. After the war he came to these parts and remained here until his second wife passed away, since which time
his home has been with his children. They are Mrs. S. A. Cliffe, Charlevoix; E. S., B. A. Sheets, Mrs. Chas. Holbrook, Blanchard; Mrs. J.D. Waldron, Shiloh; W. A. Sheets, Alberta, Can., Mrs. J. C. Kidd, Cincinnati; Mrs. O.A. Palmiter, Berrien Springs.
Mr. Sheets had been a member of the church for 45 years.
