Commander William Howard Donovan, Jr., United States Navy, was killed while standing watch in the Navy Operations Center when American Airlines Flight 77 was flown into the Pentagon. His office was based in the part of the building where the Boeing 757 crashed and burst into flames.

Bill grew up in Nunda, New York, graduating from Keshequa Senior High School in 1982. He joined the military after high school, graduating from the United States Naval Academy class of 1986. He flew in Desert Storm, and served as a tactical officer on the U.S.S. George Washington. Bill was a pilot instructor and received a master's degree in aeronautical engineering from the Naval Post Graduate school in California. He received many awards, among them the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement Medals.

He was 37 years old. Left to mourn him were his wife, Elaine, and three children, of Washington, DC, and brothers, Brian and Keith Donovan and Sister, Cindy, in Livingston County, NY.
