H. A. Calkins Passes Away At Age of 66

WESTMORELAND-Howard A. Calkins, 66, of Rt. 233, died Friday at St. Luke's-Memorial Hospital Center, New Hartford, after a short illness. Son of Frank and Hannah Miller Calkins, he was born Dec. 8, 1902, in Sauquoit. He attended Utica schools. In Utica in July 1923, he married Bertha Friberg. She died in 1964.

A resident of Westmoreland for 30 years, Mr. Calkins was employed by the Oneida County Department of Public Works. Previously he had been a floor layer in the area and employed by the Town of Westmoreland Highway Department. Mr. Calkins was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Bernard (M. June) Coyne; Mrs. James (Carol) Engle; Mrs. Raymond (Bette) Barron; a son, William Calkins; and six grandchildren, all of Westmoreland.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Monday at the Owens Funeral Home, Clinton. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Gardens, Kirkland. Calling hours at the funeral home are 7 to 9 Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Sunday.
