Ronald Jay Hart, the second child of Hildred Jay Hart and Naomi Phoebe Welch, was born in Lake Odessa, Michigan, June 24, 1932. He lived there with his family until they moved to the home farmhouse at Hart's Corners in Tuscola County, Michigan, in 1934. One year later they moved to Howell, Michigan, where he attended high school, graduating in 1950.

He attended Michigan State University for one year before volunteering for draft into the U.S. Army on August 25, 1953. The Korean War had ended on July 27, 1953, but men were needed to stabilize South Korea. Ronald underwent basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and spent his first year at Fort Campbell with the Airborne Unit. He was stationed at Su Wan, Korea, as a battery aid medic for eleven months. He was honorably discharged on June 22, 1955.

He returned to Michigan State for a year but didn't continue due to lack of funds, his mother's illness, and unrest on his part. He took a job in management training with the Goodyear Tire Company, but after a year he turned to shoe retailing.

He was married on May 25, 1958, to Julia Louise Wright, born in Constantine, Michigan, May 12, 1939. To this union were born three children, Richard Jay, Matthew Loren, and Deann Louise Hart. Ronald continued in the retail shoe business. Ronald and Julia were divorced in October, 1976, and Ronald died on March 15, 1978, from a brain aneurysm.
