He was a member of the Wheeling Consistory, Mt. Olivet Lodge No. 3, the Scottish Rite and the Nemesis Temple. He had been affiliated with the Masons for 44 years. Mr. Bennett had been an oil field worker in Burma from 1919 until 1942 when he moved to Parkersburg where he was employed as a pipefitter until his retirement.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Sophia Bennett; one son, Harper R. Bennett, Jr., of Alexandria, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Jennifer Rogero of Lantana, Fla.; four brothers, Roger Bennett, of Muncie, Ind., Clifford Bennett of Newark, O., Lewis Bennett of Vincent, O., and Lester Bennett of Newark, O.; one sister, Mrs. Edith Posey of Hebron, O.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen, Marvin and Kenneth Bennett, and one sister, Mrs. Pearl Berry.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Leavitt Funeral Home. The Rev. R. B. Ferguson, assisted by the Rev. William Knowls, officiated and burial was in the Deem Cemetery, Ritchie County. Masonic graveside rites were conducted by Mt. Olivet Lodge No. 3.
