Son of George Jackson Groves Jr. and Elizabeth Driggers Groves (later Canady),the 3rd of 5; but one of 14 children and stepchildren. Randy was a Master Sgt. during WW II and served in the European theater. After the war he settled in California, where he pursued a lifelong hobby of fine horses and riding. He often spent time at the ranch of movie actor Dale Robertson, who was known to own many fine horses. He had a short 1st marriage (one daughter), and then had two boys and two girls with Ruth Blasdale. Three years after the fourth child was born, he was killed during a big game hunting trip to Wyoming, in 1961.
