Topeka Daily Capital Sunday 2 April, 1939:

Miss Mary May Capper, sister of Senator Arthur Capper, died yesterday morning at Evanston, Ill. The funeral will be held Monday in Garnett, where she was born. There also will be funeral services today at Evanston. Senator Capper left Washington last night by train for Evanston, for services there; then he will accompany the body to Garnett for the funeral and burial in the Capper lot at Garnett.

Miss Capper, who had been ill for several months with a heart ailment, was a former Topekan, having come here shortly after Senator Capper purchased the North Topeka Mail. For years, she assisted him in his publishing business, but in 1916, she moved to Chicago, where she had resided since.

The deceased had a wide circle of friends in Topeka and she was the benefactor of many persons and a generous contributor to the YWCA, the Washburn Art Department and many personal charities. She frequently gave funds to individuals in need. Many boys received a Washburn College education thru her assistance.

In addition to Senator Capper, Miss Capper is survived by a sister, Mrs. Alfred L. Eustace, of Evanston, and a niece, Mrs. Richard Leach of New York City.
