Martha Jane Lawler
Martha Jane Bowers, daughter of Russell Bowers and Rebecca Chase Bowers, was born Oct. 22, 1869, in the Hamline neighborhood, in the town Albion, Trempealeau country, Wisconsin.
She grew up in this community and attended the Hamline school.
She was united in marriage with Francis Richard Lawler, of the town of Unity, Trempealeau county in 1891.
They made their home in the town of Unity, and she lived there until 16 years ago when she came to Mondovi. Her husband passed away July 22, 1913.
Mrs. Lawler died of a prolonged illness, from which she had suffered for years. She passed away at 12:30 o'clock noon, Sept. 21, 1944, at the home of her son Charles in Mondovi.
She is survived by five children; Frank G. Lawler of Osseo, Wis. Mrs. Kernal Houg (Grace) of Seattle, Wash., Clarence Allan Lawler of Mondovi, Mrs. Oscar Thompson (Bessie) of Mondovi, Mrs. Henry Hacker (Ruth) of Pepin county, Wis., three children preceded her in death: Edward E., James R., and Mary Lawler.
She is survived by 17 grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters and a brother: Mrs. Warren Woodruff ( Lina) of Bentonville, Ark., Mrs. James Dunhue (Retta) of Elmore, N. D., and Charles E. Bowers of Sacramento, Calif. A sister-in-law, Mrs. Emma Bowers, resides at Eleva, Wis. A daughter-in-law Mrs. James Lawler, resides in Eau Claire.
