Kenneth L. Klemme, 91, of Captain Cook, Hawaii, went to be with his heavenly Father on Aug. 7, 2011.
Kenneth Lloyd Klemme was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Akron, the son of Emery and Freda (Schmidt) Klemme.
He served our country in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving as a flight engineer, crew chief, and Staff Sergeant E-6, flying missions in a C-46 aircraft between China and India, over the "Hump" during a period of two years. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 8, 1945.
He earned the following military service medals: Efficiency, honor Fidelity; American Campaign; Asiatic Pacific Campaign; World War Ii Medal and Army Air Corps Air Medal.
He married Betty Jo Melton Jan. 3, 1946, in Tulsa, Okla. She had waited three long years for his return. They were married for 65 years.
Ken worked as a maintenance electrician for American Airlines for 36 years. After his retirement the family, including their daughters Jane and Karen, moved to Hawaii in 1986, settling in Kailua-Kona.
He was affiliated with the Assembly of God church, American Airlines Van Guards and Kona Adult Day Center.
He was affectionately known as "Mikie" to friends an family, as he liked everything. He was known for being able to fix anything, being a wood worker, building stone walls and landscaping and was also a coffee farmer.
He is survived by his wife Betty and daughters Karen Klemme and Jane Klemme, all of Captain Cook, Hawaii; brother Daryl (Louise) Klemme of Akron; sisters Betty Jean (Roger) Athens of Le Mars and Verla Mae Jacobs of Laytonville, Calif.
Graveside services with military honors were held Aug. 26, at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery.
