Matilda Pegg was a daughter of William Pegg, born about 1796 in Pennsylvania. Matilda was born about 1819 in New York. She first married James Worden on 17 April 1844 in Eaton County, Michigan. They had three children and were expecting their fourth child when James was killed in the Battle of Shiloh on 6 April 1862. She remained a widow until 7 Dec. 1871 when she married Mark Dowler at Olivet, Michigan. He lived another fifteen years after her death. She was interred at Olivet Cemetery next to her two infant grandchildren, Mary Estella and Harry Smith.
