"Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Evans were held Sunday afternoon, August 5, 1979, at the First Baptist Church in Rifle. Rev. Hank Thompson officiated. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The Bowder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
"Rose Belle Evans, the daughter of Alvin Lewis and Sarah Ellen Hickman Hunnel, was born on February 1, 1901, at Webb, Iowa. She died at Rifle on July 31, 1979.
"In 1904, Mrs. Evans' parents moved to Colorado where they lived in Mesa county near Grand Junction. She attended the Pear Park School and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1920. For two years she taught school at Pear Park.
"She was united in marriage with Archie Eachus at Grand Junction in 1922. She was later married to William Lowell Evans on June 3, 1926 at Grand Junction. Mr. and Mrs. Evans had lived in various communities in western Colorado while Evans worked as a miner and on road construction projects. While living at Uravan, Mrs. Evans served the community as a practical nurse.
"In 1942 they moved to Rifle where she has since made her home. In July of 1950 they established the Northside Laundry, which they owned and operated until retirement in 1966. Evans died in April of 1975.
"Mrs. Evans enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
"She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Ross; three sisters, Mary Lutz, May Taylor and Louisa Mattison; and four brothers, Frank, Charlie, Martin and Harley.
"Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Everett (May Belle) Page of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mrs. Mary Elder of Rifle; two sons, William G. of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Paul R. of Oxnard, California; two brothers, Jack Hunnel of Culver City, California, and George Hunnel of Sioux City, Iowa; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends."
