Robert immigrated to the United States in 1872, he married Lena Ruf in Manhattan in 1875. By 1900 he had relocated to Kingston and for many years was employed as a cigar maker for Schuster Cigar Store at 43 East Strand. His wife, Lena, died 5 months before he died, in June 1915.
