Autopsy Lays Mountain Death To Natural Cause

PORTERVILLE (Tulare Co.), Aug. 5--Deputy Coroner Fred Fritz_che to-day announced an autopsy on the body of Jacob J. Abernathy, 66, who was found dead Friday evening on the bank of Bear Creek on the road in Falch Park, proved conclusively the man died from natural cause.

It has been established by relatives that Abernathy was last seen alive May 27th. His body was not discovered until almost a week later. It was buried Saturday in the Porterville Cemetery.

Abernathy recently took out a permit to carry a revolver, giving as the reason that he had an enemy in the mountains where he made his home. When the body was discovered, only an empty gun holster was found.

Late Saturday evening Henry Star found the missing revolver ___ where Abernathy had lain.

Abernathy had lived alone with his dog, which was guarding the body when he was found. The dog, half ___ed, had to be coaxed away and locked in the dead man's truck before officials could touch the body.

Abernathy was a member of the Porterville Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars and was well known here. He had been a resident of this district more than forty years.
