Deceased Name: DOMINIC AUGUSTINE RIOLO

Dominic Augustine Riolo, 17, of Los Osos, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday afternoon, Dec. 31, 2009, at his home.

Dominic was born in May 1992 in San Luis Obispo, the son of Pete and Anne Riolo; he is also survived by his younger sister, Sheridan Riolo.

He began speaking and reading at a very early age. His uplifting, social nature was the essence of the reason he so thoroughly enjoyed each of his school years.

As a sixth-grader, Dominic received the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Citizenship Award. This same year, Dominic, along with his friend Ricky Peterson, conducted a day camp for boys ages 4 to 6 (Dr. Dudes Day Camp) to benefit the San Luis Obispo EOC Homeless Shelter as their Community Action Project. He also volunteered on several occasions to support Make-A-Wish of the Tri- Counties.

At the time of his death, Dominic was a senior at Morro Bay High School. He had participated in Associated Student Body (ASB), soccer, baseball, water polo and swimming.

His enthusiasm for team sports was evidenced by the honors he received from his teammates: 2006 Freshman Baseball--Outstanding Teammate Award; 2007 J/V Water Polo--Outstanding Teammate Award; as well as 2008 Varsity Swimming-- Outstanding Teammate Award.

Dominic was a natural communicator with an extraordinary memory. He loved baseball and football, passions he shared with his father, and held fairness and respect in highest regard.

This constellation of characteristics led to his decision to pursue a college degree in Sports Broadcasting/Journalism -- indeed, a natural path he was excited to start traveling. He was planning to attend either UCSB, Michigan State or Syracuse University.

A private funeral service for Dominic's immediate family will be officiated by Deacon Charles M. Roeder of Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. Pallbearers will be Danny Finegan, Gordon Kirby, Elliott Kaser, Robert Neal, Ricky Peterson and Adam Valine.

The family will hold a wake from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park, 2260 Los Osos Valley Road in Los Osos, (805) 528-1500.

A celebration of Dominic's life will commence at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at Morro Bay High School's Main Gym, followed immediately by a repast.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of his numerous years of commitment to various sports, his favorite being baseball, the family asks donations be made in Dominic Riolo's name to the Los Osos Little League, Attn: Marianne Davis, P.O. Box 6331, Los Osos, CA 93412
