Shirley Jean (Rechtenbach) Wilkinson was born on October 17, 1944 on the farm North of Bridgewater, Iowa to Iva Nancy (Ruch) and Harold Wayne Rechtenbach. Shirley passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the Corning Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of sixty-five years, nine months and twenty-six days.
Shirley attended country school in Adair County and graduated from Bridgewater-Fontanelle High School in 1963. She married Darwin "Dart" Wilkinson on August 14, 1961 at the Prescott Church Parsonage in Prescott. Four children were born to this union.
Shirley's hobbies included sewing and quilting and other handwork. She enjoyed camping, bird watching and being outdoors. Shirley loved gardening both vegetables and flowers, canning the vegetables she grew. She loved to go dancing and belong to a square dance club for several years.
Shirley is survived by her children: Kimberly (Randy) Reed of Prescott, Gregory Wilkinson and special friend Lisa Blazek of Greenfield, Shelly (Randy) Loghry and Melissa (Colby) Weatherly, both of Corning; special friend, Jerry Loghry of Prescott; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother, Daryl Rechtenbach of Bridgewater; brother-in-law, Max Warnock of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law: LaRell (Colleen) Wilkinson of Lenox; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin in 1988; her parents; mother and father-in-law, Pauline and Orville "Pistol" Wilkinson; sister, Mary Warnock; sister and brother-in-law: Phyllis (Joe) Gabriel; sister-in-law, Sandy Rechtenbach; one infant nephew, Leroy Rechtenbach and a niece, Dawn Hutchison.
