A rosary and memorial service will be held tonight for Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Charles Robert Anderson, shot and killed in his Burbank home early Saturday. He was thirty-five.

Anderson and his wife, Beth, returned to their home in the 17000 block of West Oak Street early Saturday morning with their two sons. After Anderson put the older child to bed, he was confronted, possibly by an intruder, and shot, police said.

An eleven-year member of the sheriff's department, Anderson most recently was assigned to the advanced officers training section at the department's academy.

Anderson had received bachelor's and master's degrees from USC.

The sheriff's department has not issued a statement on the deputy's death, department spokesman Deputy Drew Basey said Tuesday.

Anderson is survived by his wife; sons, Michael, 5, and Richard, 1; his parents, J. Robert and Mary M. Anderson; brothers, J. Richard Anderson and the Rev. David E. Anderson; and sister, Mary P. Hardy.

A rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. at St. Finbar Catholic Church, 2010 West Olive Avenue. A requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church, with burial to follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetary, 11160 Stanwood Avenue, Mission Hills.
