"John Abplanalp, 84; for most of his life a resident of Jeffersonville died Sunday after a few hours illness. He had eaten dinner as usual but compolained afterward. He lay down and expired. For years he was a watchmaker and jeweler and was also the village shoemaker. Funeral and burial were held Tuesday afternoon.

"John C Abplanalp, whose death August 26th at his home in Jeffersonville was noted last weeks Register died just one day before his 80th birthday. He was in ill health for sometime and the end came peacefully as he sat in his chair in the kitchen.
He was born on Swiss Hill on the farm now owned by Mrs Peaci. His parents, HEnry and Elizabeth came from Ebifnger, Canton Berne, Switzerland. Except for a couple of years in the barkwoods at Equinunk, PA he lived all his life in Jeff where he learned shoemaking trade from Frank Lauferswefler and later conducted his own business first in the Ranft building then ihn the Old Von-Arx building and finally in the building owned by Beck.
He was married September 10 1878 to Blanca Schloss of Youngsville who is his only survivor. He was the last of his fathers family of 3 sons and 2 daughters."
