Robert Joseph was 13 years old when the family moved from Minnesota to Indiana. He went to business school and worked as a bookkeeper. He was a second Lieutenant in the Army Tank Division in World War II. he fought in the "Battle of the Bulge" and was taken prisoner by the Germans. He was held in Germany for six months until the war ended. He worked for a few years at Krieg Brothers in Indianapolis and died suddenly of a heart attack in 1967. His funeral mass was at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Indianapolis, and he was buried in Marion, Indiana.
