Annelle Moore was born to William Dee Moore and Estella Clemme "Stella" Smith Moore in rural Lometa, Lampasas County, Texas. She was one of 4 children. (Siblings: Wanda Rue, Alfa Lou, and Warren Dee Moore)
She worked as a secretary during her career, first at Fort Hood, Texas, a jeweler in Waco, Texas then for Sun Oil in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Nell's first marriage was to Robert Gerald Cash (b.1927) for a brief year, when she was 19 years old. Married on December 26, 1950 in Lometa, Texas. Divorced in 1951. Robert was in the Navy and was transferred to California soon after their marriage, but Nell stayed in Texas.
She married Harry F. Craft (1915-1995),on May 8, 1959 in Oklahoma, and they had 36 wonderful years of marriage together. They had one daughter, Carole Anne (living), who was the apple of their eye. She and Harry traveled much with Harry's long baseball career. They lived the first years in Inverness, Florida on Lake Clearwater (1962-1973), then moved back to Texas in 1973 (to be closer to their families) at Conroe, Texas. They chose Conroe, as it was more of a small town atmosphere to raise their daughter Carole in, as it had excellent schools, and was close to the airport for Harry's baseball travels.
Nell loved to cook, garden, visit with friends and family, and buy gifts for everyone, (including the checkers at the grocery store and sales people at her favorite stores, bank, dry cleaners, etc.). She loved and tended her flowers with tender loving care, and there were always many beautiful flowers at her home. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and she shopped all year long for sales so she could give everyone lovely gifts for Christmas as well as their birthdays. She loved to cook, and was a wonderful cook. She decorated her home inside and out for Christmas, her favorite holiday, but also loved to decorate for all the holidays, loving to celebrate them all. Every day was a joy to her. For Christmas, she was so organized, she had all her hundred gifts wrapped and stacked in a spare bedroom, for delivery by Dec.1st, and spent the entire month December baking for everyone and delivering packages. So, she truly, truly enjoyed the Christmas holiday to it's fullest!
Aunt Nell had a vibrant personality with a glorious smile that captivated your heart right away. Everyone who met her fell in love with her. She was a great conversationalist, and was always interested in everyone she met. She never met a stranger, and you always remembered her, once you had met her. She had such a strong fascination with whoever she was speaking to. She always made you feel like you were the most interesting person she had ever talked with.
Nell was a two time breast Cancer survivor, and after both of her mastectomies, instead of needing counseling, she would walk the halls of the hospital visiting and cheering up other people on her floor. Caring for. and about others was her therapy. She insisted on a positive outlook on life.
Nell, Harry and daughter, Carole, were members of the Methodist Church in Florida, and Conroe, Texas. She was a Christian woman and had a deep abiding faith.
She passed away in Conroe, Texas in a nursing facility, after a series of mini-strokes. Funeral Services were in Metcalf Chapel of the Pines, Conroe, Texas, September 20, 1997. The chapel was overflowing with relatives, friends and neighbors, along with baseball personalities.
Her wishes were to be cremated and ashes strewn on a favorite mountain outside her home town of Lometa, Texas and at her Mother and Dad's old homeplace in Lometa, which her daughter carried out.
