Her mother brought the family back to Newry as her father headed to the USA seeking a better life for the family. By the age of 16, Mary was employed as a spinner in the textile industry.
Mary, her mother, and two sisters arrived in the USA and reunited with her father in December, 1920.
Married to Johannes (John) Petersen in 1924, Mary settled into her role as wife and mother. She and John lived in Bronx, NY until his untimely death in 1952.
Survived by her son John and four grandchildren.
