MARLBORO - Howard A. Tremblay, 71, of 270 Broadmeadow Road died yesterday in the University of Massachusetts Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves his wife, Dorris M. (McCaffrey) Pelletier Tremblay; two step-daughters, Anne Howland of Westboro and Kathleen Welsh of Alexandria, Va.; three sisters, Lucille St. Hilaire of Marlboro, Edna Sanborn of Hudson and Pauline Metevier of Sacramento, Calif.; six stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Mrs. and Mrs. Tremblay were married Oct. 20, 1961. He was born in Marlboro, son of Eugene and Elizabeth (Ward) Tremblay, and lived here most of his life.
Mr. Tremblay was a cottage director for 25 years at the former Lyman School for Boys in Westboro, retiring in 1979. He was then a school-crossing guard for eight years for the Marlboro School Department.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asian-Pacific theater. He saw action in the Philippines and the western Pacific. He received a Bronze Service Star and a Bronze Service Arrowhead.
Mr. Tremblay was a member of St. Ann's Church and Marlboro Senior Citizens.
The funeral will be held Tuesday from John P. Rowe Funeral Home, 57 Main St., with a Mass at a.m. in St. Ann's Church, Lincoln Street. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
