MERRITT, JACK P. - age 84, of Knoxville, died Sunday, June 21, 1998 at Ft. Sanders Parkwest Hospital. Member of the Episocpal Church of the Ascension. Born on March 21, 1913, in Fall City, NB. Veteran of U.S. Army serving as an officer in World War II in the South Pacific and the Philippines. He joined Gaetz Brewery, St. Joseph, Missouri in 1946. Transferred to Knoxville as Retail Sales Manager and retired in 1978. Longtime member of Masonic Lodge and active in the Shriners. Preceded in death by wife, Thelma Merritt, who died on June 2, 1998. Survivors: Brother-in-law, Ret. Col. W.W. Johnson of Lampac, CA., Curtis L. Johnson of Pelham, Al. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial service for Jack and Thelma Merritt will be held 3:00 P.M., Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension with the Rev. Gordon Temple officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 800 Northshore Dr., Knoxville, Tn 37919 or Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital.
