Trooper Cogdill was killed when his patrol car was struck by a tractor trailer on I-40, near NC 209, in Haywood County. He was conducting a traffic stop when the semi struck the patrol car, pushing it 100 yards.
In August 2004 a bridge on 209, crossing I-40, was renamed the "Trooper Anthony C. Cogdill Memorial Bridge."
Anthony had been employed with the NC Highway Patrol for 6 years. He previously served with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office for 3 years.
He is survived by his wife, 3 year old son and his parents.
