Jim McLaughlin is the son of Fred and Rosie McLaughlin and was born in West Virginia when his father was stationed there in the Marine Corps. In 1959 his father got out of the Corps and moved to Charlotte, NC and Jim graduated from Myers Park HS. He attended Davidson College and went on to teach in the school system. He loved flying and also was an instructor. He and his wife had one daughter, who still resides in the Charlotte, NC area.
