Ivah DeMaye Sample was born on April 23, 1911 in Yale, Okla., the daughter of Abner Clay and Iva Pearlee (DeMoss) Sample. She grew up in Wellington, KS, and after graduating from high school there, she attended secretarial school and worked for a time in Chicago before moving to Ponca City in 1929 to work for Continental Oil Company. There she met her future husband, Vernon Ernest Andress. They were married on March 27, 1932, in Wellington, KS and made their home in Ponca City. In addition to raising two children and being involved in and supportive of their activities, DeMaye was active in the Women's Group and Choir at the First Presbyterian Church, Ponca City Music Club, and D.A.R. She traveled extensively, read widely, and loved bridge, Mahjong, and crossword puzzles. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and mother-in-law, and we will miss her. She faced adversity with great courage, determination and faith. The family is grateful for the professional and compassionate care DeMaye received from the staff at Westminster Village and at Via Christi Medical Center. ...
She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Dr. Robert Clay Sample.
